![]() ![]() Conversely, Franky always makes sure to cover his back (hence, he wears a shirt) because it is a weak spot- it is still flesh and blood, the only part of his body he cannot reach and modify. If in a battle, Franky will strip down for the sake of using his weapons or wear specially modified clothing that can transform along with him. Now, his cyborg body is built in a way that covering himself up actually limits him from accessing its features (long sleeves prevent him from using weapons installed on his arms, a buttoned shirt stops him from accessing his chest panels, pants keep him from using features on his legs that cause them to separate or expand, shoes are a hindrance for the same reason and also redundant because his feet are toughened with iron). He also does not like it when people tamper with his look, as seen when Nami's mind was inside his body and she tried to button up his Hawaiian shirt, which made Franky upset.īefore becoming a cyborg, Franky went half-dressed simply because he wanted to. It is rare for him to button up his shirt, have long sleeves, and wear pants or footwear unless the situation calls for it, or someone makes him do so. His choice of clothing usually comprises of a swim briefs, which causes people to call him a pervert, and an open loud Hawaiian "Aloha" shirt with a large golden chain necklace around his neck. He also had an ordinary nose and chin, both of which were later badly broken in the accident, causing him to repair them with iron. ![]() Franky has an equally angular prosthetic nose made of iron with several rivets and jagged edges, the only replacement part of his exterior body that is not covered in artificial skin.īefore being hit by the Puffing Tom, Franky's forearms were normal-sized, and his overall height was comparably smaller than his cyborg-enhanced self would be. His chin is very angular and tapers off in three pointed clefts. Franky's eyebrows are rather long and stern, and he has three prominent lower Matsuge on each eye. He has brightly colored blue hair and blue star tattoos on his forearms. His chest is well-toned with large abs and pectoral muscles. His forearms are relatively enormous while his biceps are comparably small. Īppearance Further information: Franky/Gallery Before the TimeskipĪs a direct result of the modifications that he conducted upon himself as well as the years spent as a ship dismantler, bounty hunter, and street thug in Water 7, Franky is a powerfully built man with a height of at least seven feet, making him the third-tallest member of the Straw Hat crew, after Jinbe and Brook. Following the Raid on Onigashima, his bounty was increased to 394,000,000. It later increased to 94,000,000 after the Dressrosa Arc. He gained a bounty of 44,000,000 for his involvement at the Enies Lobby Incident. Franky's dream is to create a ship and circumnavigate the world with it, and he built the Thousand Sunny and joined the Straw Hat Pirates to fulfill his dream. įranky and his followers were originally enemies of the Straw Hats at the beginning of the Water 7 Arc, until circumstances forced them to become allies at the end of the same arc and the Enies Lobby Arc. Upon returning to Water 7, he became the leader of the Franky Family, a group of ship dismantlers and bounty hunters. There, he came to be a member of Tom's Workers, until an incident resulted in his body being heavily damaged and requiring him to augment himself into a cyborg. Originally from the South Blue, Franky was abandoned by his family as a four-year-old, eventually making his way to Water 7. īorn " Cutty Flam", he chose to go by his nickname of "Franky" until eventually permanently discarding his true name per the request of Iceburg to hide his identity. ![]() He is the crew's eighth member and the seventh to join, doing so at the end of the Post-Enies Lobby Arc. ![]() In more modern times, anvils have been placed upon bases fabricated from steel, often a short thick section of a large I-beam. ![]() When concrete became widely available, there was a trend to make steel reinforced anvil bases by some smiths, though this practice has largely been abandoned. These bases are highly sought after by collectors today. They had the advantage of adding additional weight to the anvil, making it more stable. In the industrial era, cast iron bases became available. The most common base traditionally was a hard wood log or large timber buried several feet into the floor of the forge shop. Common methods of attaching an anvil are spikes, chains, steel or iron straps, clips, bolts where there are holes provided, and cables. The anvil is placed as near to the forge as is convenient, generally no more than one step from the forge to prevent heat loss in the work piece.Īn anvil needs to be placed upon a sturdy base made from an impact and fire resistant material. Placement Blacksmith's anvil mounted on a log At times, smiths will fit a second tool to this hole to allow the smith more flexibility when using more than one anvil tool. The pritchel hole is a small round hole that is present on most modern anvils. It is also used in punching and bending operations. The hardy hole is a square hole into which specialized forming and cutting tools, called hardy tools, are placed. Upsetting is a technique often used by blacksmiths for making the steel workpiece short and thick, having probably been originally long and thin. There have also been other additions to the anvil such as an upsetting block this is used to upset steel, generally in long strips/bars as it is placed between the feet of the anvil. It is soft and is used for cutting its purpose is to prevent damaging the steel face of the anvil by conducting such operations there and so as not to damage the cutting edge of the chisel, though many smiths shun this practice as it will damage the anvil over time. The step is the area of the anvil between the "horn" and the "face". Also, some anvils are made with side horns or clips for specialized work. Some anvils, mainly European, are made with two horns, one square and one round. It also is used by some smiths as an aid in "drawing down" stock (making it longer and thinner). The horn is used mostly in bending operations. The horn of the anvil is a conical projection used to form various round shapes and is generally unhardened steel or iron. Hammers, tools, and work pieces of hardened steel should never directly strike the anvil face with full force, as they may damage it this can result in chipping or deforming of the anvil face. A hard anvil face also reduces the amount of force lost in each hammer blow. The face is hardened and tempered to resist the blows of the smith's hammer, so the anvil face does not deform under repeated use. Also, sharp edges tend to cut into the metal being worked and may cause cracks to form in the workpiece. Any marks on the face will be transferred to the work. It is generally made of hardened steel and should be flat and smooth with rounded edges for most work. The primary work surface of the anvil is known as the face. This anvil is not heat treated or made from tool steel. There are larger anvils that are made out of multiple pieces such as “The mile long anvil” made by Napier which weights 6500 pounds. This anvil was made in 2023 by Oak Lawn Blacksmith. ![]() The largest single piece tool steel anvil that is heat treated is 1600 pounds. Inexpensive anvils have been made of cast iron and low-quality steel, but are considered unsuitable for serious use, as they deform and lack rebound when struck. The great majority of modern anvils are made of cast steel that has been heat treated by either flame or electric induction. Before the advent of modern welding technology, it was the primary tool of metal workers. In most cases the anvil is used as a forging tool.
